2 YORKS in Cyprus (Print)

The artwork was commissioned by the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess. They wanted to celebrate their third and final tour of Cyprus, where they have been the resident infantry battalion. This painting would visually demonstrate their achievements over the 8 years being posted in Cyprus.

The artwork depicts various scenarios appearing to happen at once, with the centre piece being the presentation of the colours under an olive tree in Cyprus. The top right scene shows soldiers teaching the Peshmerga in Iraq, the bottom left scene depicts soldiers in public order kit with an armed soldier protecting an RAF fighter jet. The top left soldier carries an Afghan child wrapped in a red towel onto a plane at an airport in Afghanistan, which is being protected by the soldiers. Finally, the bottom right image shows a soldier training in Afghanistan as part of the standby battalion.

It was a great honour to be asked to paint such a powerful and evocative artwork on behalf of 2 YORKS. I hope that I have done them proud! It was a pleasure to paint.
